On March 15, 2023, China Aid confirmed that Alimujiang Yimiti, a Uyghur Christian, has been released from prison after serving his 15-year sentence. He is now home with his wife and family.
Alimujiang Yimiti, also known as Alim, converted from Islam to Christianity in 1995 and served as a house church pastor to Uyghurs in Kashgar, Xinjiang. He was detained on Jan 12, 2008 for ‘inciting separatism’ and for ‘providing state secrets to overseas organizations’. In November 2010, the Higher People’s Court of Xinjian accepted an appeal by Alim’s wife and mother and decided to retry his case. In February 2011, the Higher People’s Court of Xinjiang notified Alim that they had upheld the original sentence of 15 years of imprisonment.
