Christian convert Mehdi Akbari, who also goes by the name Yasser, has been released from prison after having his 10-year sentence reduced to four years and five months by the Court of Appeal in Tehran. His release comes just five days after the release of another Christian prisoner, Anooshavan Avedian, who was also acquitted by the same court of appeal last week.
During his time in prison, in 2021, his only son Amin Ali died.
In a letter smuggled out of prison and sent to The Mirror, and later obtained by Article 18, Yasser wrote about his grief at the death of his son. He said he was carrying the grief of the loss of his son within him, “like a suppressed cry and an unexpressed sorrow”.
Praise the Lord for Yasser’s early release.
