Amir-Ali Minaei was arrested in December 2023 and taken to Evin prison and then released on bail two months later following intensive interrogations. Upon his release he was diagnosed with a heart condition, believed to have been caused by the stress he was placed under during his detention.

In March 2024 Amir was sentenced to 3yrs and seven months in prison on charges of “propaganda activities against the regime through establishing a house-church.” The judge also sentenced him to deprivation of social rights – such as membership of any organisation, following his imprisonment. According to Article 18, he began serving his sentence in April 2024.

In January 2025, his application for conditional release was refused. In March 2025, he was beaten by a prison officer, who struck him directly in the chest, after he pleaded to be sent for an assessment by a cardiologist.

On 12 April, 2025 Amir began a hunger strike to protest his mistreatment and being denied access to a phone. He has since ended his hunger strike and has been given limited access to a phone as well as treatment after fracturing a bone in his right leg.
