CHARGED WITH:
"illegal business operations”
On August 19, 2021, Chang Yuchun and his wife Li Chenhui were sentenced to 7 years in prison, for ‘illegal business operations’, and fined $34,800 each. They appealed their sentence but their appeals were denied.
Before his arrest, Chang Yuchun was the legal representative of a Christian book printing company that he and his wife Li Chenhui had established in 2015. Since its establishment, their company had printed and sold large numbers of Christian books. They had also taken risks in printing theological books related to Christianity which met the needs of many churches.
The printing company attracted the attention of local authorities in Xi’an city which resulted in the company being closed down in July 2021. More than 210,000 copies of various Christian books were confiscated, and 24 books were later deemed to be illegal publications.
Chang Yuchun and his wife have four children. According to China Aid, the children are currently living with their grandparents.
