Christian convert Fatemeh Bakhteri, was arrested in May 2017, along with another member of the Iranian Church. Her charges were appealed, but May 18, 2019 they were upheld and her sentence was made known. The judge suggested Ms Bakhteri become a Muslim so that she could ignore the charges, but she refused.
On September 5, 2019 Fatemeh was charged with ‘propoganda against the system’, and sentenced to one years imprisonment, followed by two-years deprivation of all social activities, membership in political and social groups, and associations with Christians. It was reported that she is being held in Evin prison.
